Bicycle-friendly businesses take the initiative to accommodate customers, clients and employees who travel by bike. Some do so by providing ample bike parking for patrons or employees or both. Others offer incentives to patrons who arrive by bike.

Bicycle-friendly businesses also take an active role in supporting projects and events that encourage bicycling in the community. For example, Ride the Parkway (formerly the Rex Ride) raised funds to maintain signs along the American River Parkway. The ride continued the legacy of Steve and Peggy Rex, owners of Rex Cycles and avid supporters of the Parkway. And for several years, HOT ITALIAN brought the Bicycle Film Festival to Sacramento.

The League of American Bicyclists, a national advocacy organization, recognizes bike-friendly businesses throughout North America. HOT ITALIAN, Mercy General Hospital, REI Sacramento, Dokken Engineering, Kaiser Folsom and SABA are the region’s bike-friendly businesses designated by the League (HOT ITALIAN is the only restaurant in California with this designation).
