Tips for Bicycling

Ride so that automobile drivers can see you and predict your movements. This includes:
  • Riding in a straight line.
  • Dressing to be visible.
  • Riding defensively.
  • Using hand signals.

Wear an approved helmet.

Obey all traffic signals.

Ride in the same direction as the flow of traffic. Keep right where practicable to allow other vehicles to pass.

Be alert for road hazards.

Use lights at night.

Be aware of parked cars and watch for car doors that may open.

Look out for cars at cross streets and driveways.

Keep your bike in good condition.

Give pedestrians the right-of-way.
